Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a ₦50 million cash reward for the Super Falcons as they prepare to face the Amazons of Benin Republic in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying clash.
The governor made the announcement during the team’s courtesy visit to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he described the Falcons as a symbol of determination, resilience, and national pride.
Governor Abiodun expressed confidence in the team’s ability to defeat Benin Republic, assuring them of Ogun State’s full support as they take to the pitch at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
“You are an inspiration to millions of young Nigerians. Ogun State is proud to host and support you as you continue to make our nation proud,” Abiodun said.
He explained that the ₦50 million reward is a motivation package designed to encourage the players to maintain their winning mentality as they seek another successful WAFCON appearance.
The governor commended the team for their discipline, teamwork, and consistency, noting that the Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national football team.
Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to women’s sports development, adding that Ogun State will continue to provide platforms for female athletes to excel both locally and internationally.
He also highlighted his administration’s investment in youth empowerment and sports infrastructure, saying the decision to host the Super Falcons again in Abeokuta underscores the state’s growing reputation as a sports-friendly destination.
“Our partnership with national teams reflects Ogun State’s vision of using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, unity, and community growth,” he added.
Governor Abiodun assured that his government would continue to upgrade sporting facilities across the state to nurture emerging talents and sustain Ogun’s position as a hub for sports excellence in Nigeria.
