The Yobe State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body near the Federal University, Gashua.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday in Damaturu, the state capital.
According to Abdulkarim, the report was filed on Friday by one Yusuf Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward, in Bade Local Government Area. The deceased, identified as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar from Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, was reportedly found lying lifeless near the university fence, dressed in a black hijab.
“She was found near the university fence, dressed in a black hijab,” Abdulkarim said.
Police operatives from the Gashua Division swiftly arrived at the scene and evacuated the body to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim might have been transported in a vehicle and dumped about two kilometres away from her residence. After an autopsy conducted in accordance with Islamic rites, the body was released to her family for burial.
Commissioner Promises Full Investigation
SP Abdulkarim quoted the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, as assuring residents of a “thorough and professional investigation” to determine the circumstances behind Falmata’s death.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.
“The command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property as well as maintaining peace across the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, in another development, the Yobe Police Command recently recorded a major breakthrough in its operations. On October 7, 2025, officers from the State Intelligence Department arrested a criminal syndicate specializing in using stolen mobile phones to access victims’ bank accounts and commit internet and ATM-related fraud across the state.
