The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a temporary closure of the access road linking Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Saturday morning.
According to a travel advisory issued by FAAN on Friday, the closure will allow the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to conduct its annual 10-kilometre walk and jog exercise. The exercise will start at 6:00 a.m. and is expected to end by 8:00 a.m.
FAAN noted that security personnel would be deployed across the affected routes to direct traffic and ensure public safety during the exercise. The agency also assured that the closure will not affect flight operations.
“This does not in any way disrupt airport operations, as scheduled flights would operate normally,” FAAN said. “The access roads would be completely opened immediately after the exercise.”
The Authority, however, advised passengers and airport users to plan ahead, as minor traffic disruptions may occur around the airport axis during the event.
Similarly, the spokesperson of the NAF Headquarters Logistics Command in Lagos, Squadron Leader Abigail Ologun, confirmed the development, stating that the annual fitness exercise aims to improve the health, well-being, and operational readiness of Air Force personnel.
“The Command assures the public that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth, safe, and hitch-free exercise,” she added.
