In a major decision aimed at sanitizing the financial operations of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has cancelled the ₦134 billion contract earlier awarded for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.

The contract, initially awarded by Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd) during his tenure as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, was revoked on Thursday during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Fubara.

The Council ordered the construction company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to refund the ₦20 billion mobilization fee previously released for the project.

Additionally, the Council constituted a six-man committee led by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to review and recommend suitable sites for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to aid external examinations.

The flood control committee, also chaired by Prof. Odu, was mandated to take urgent measures to mitigate flooding and sensitize residents against the obstruction of drainage channels.

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-oriented governance.
