The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted the consensus option to select its governorship candidate for the upcoming October 27, 2025 primary election in Ekiti State, paving the way for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to stand as the sole contender.
The development followed the voluntary withdrawal of Atinuke Omolayo, one of the two cleared aspirants, from the race. The party announced the decision in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Tuesday.
Morka stated that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) approved the shift from the previously scheduled direct primary to a consensus arrangement, citing provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the party’s constitution.
“The All Progressives Congress announces its decision to now adopt the consensus mode for the conduct of its governorship primary election in Ekiti State,” Morka said.
According to him, the party had notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through a letter dated October 13, 2025, and fulfilled all legal requirements under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act.
The APC also released its nomination timetable: a Delegate Congress will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, followed by a Delegate Congress Appeal on Sunday, October 26, while the Special Nomination Congress will take place on Monday, October 27, 2025, to ratify the consensus candidate.
Morka lauded Omolayo’s “spirit of sportsmanship and commitment to party unity,” urging all APC stakeholders in Ekiti to close ranks and work collectively for victory in the forthcoming July 20, 2026 governorship election.
It would be recalled that another aspirant, Kayode Ojo, had earlier been disqualified by the party’s screening committee on October 9.
