Abia Gov Alex Otti Assures Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Soon, Says Tinubu Is Favourably Disposed

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed optimism that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will soon regain his freedom.

Otti gave the assurance on Friday during President Bola Tinubu’s one-day official visit to Abia State. The President was represented at the event by the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

Otti’s Assurance

“I can assure you that I am engaging with Mr President. He is favourably disposed to it, and I am sure that in no distant future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Governor Otti stated.

He stressed his long-standing relationship with Tinubu, adding that the President has a reputation for keeping his promises:
“Mr President and I have been friends for decades. Whatever he wants to do, he will say so, and if not, he will also be clear. Having made promises, I am sure he will keep them.”

Federal Government’s Position

Speaking on behalf of Tinubu, Umahi urged South-East residents to remain united and law-abiding, stressing that the government was exploring peaceful and political solutions to resolve Kanu’s case.

“I ask the people of the South-East to unite and come together. I have listened to the messages for Mr President and the comments of the governor of Abia State,” Umahi said.

He confirmed that South-East governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and ministers were actively working together to push for a political resolution.

“With the love of the President for the South-East, I am confident that a peaceful resolution will come to pass. But we must remain appreciative, law-abiding, and recognise that this President has placed the South-East at the centre of national activities,” Umahi added.
