Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Set to Resume Next Week After One-Month Suspension

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service will resume operations next week, bringing an end to a one-month suspension following track damage at Asham.

The suspension was enforced after the August 26, 2025, incident, which disrupted travel along one of Nigeria’s busiest rail corridors.

In a statement released on Saturday by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, the corporation disclosed that repair works and safety checks on the affected section have been successfully completed.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation is pleased to announce that the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service is set to resume operations next week, following the successful completion of repair and safety checks on the affected section of track at Asham,” the statement read.

The NRC further assured passengers that both infrastructure and rolling stock have been restored to the highest safety standards, in line with global best practices.

As part of its commitment to passenger welfare, the corporation confirmed that it has already refunded 512 out of 583 passengers on board the affected train, with efforts underway to process refunds for the remaining passengers.

This resumption is expected to restore confidence in rail travel on the Abuja-Kaduna route, which remains a critical link between the nation’s capital and the northwestern region.
