Six serving members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing constitutional breaches and poor legislative management. The lawmakers announced their decision in Gusau on December 24, 2025, after a joint meeting.
They accused the House leadership of abandoning its constitutional role and operating under the influence of the executive arm led by Governor Dauda Lawal. The defectors said they were illegally suspended for nearly two years, denying their constituents proper representation.
The lawmakers also alleged that bills were being passed without the required quorum and described such actions as null and void. They urged the National Assembly to intervene in the crisis. Explaining their defection, they cited justice, inclusiveness and political harmony, while describing the PDP as weakened by internal crises.
