Former Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, has taken to social media to express anger over the ongoing demolition of residential properties in some parts of Nigeria.
In an emotional post on his Instagram page, Emenike accused government officials of deliberately targeting a particular tribe — the Igbos — in the demolition exercise.
The footballer, known for his outspokenness, blamed his people (Ndi Igbo) for failing to invest more in their home states, advising them to channel their resources into places like Anambra, Enugu, Delta, and Imo States, instead of regions where their investments are at risk.
He wrote:
“His biggest achievement since he became the governor is to destroy homes of a particular tribe. You will pay for that, believe me. The problem with my people Ndi Igbo is that they don’t listen. They should enjoy the demolition. You can do your business in Abuja, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu, even Delta State.”
Meanwhile, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has also reacted to the demolition saga.
In a strongly-worded statement, Obi condemned the government’s action, describing the demolitions as “willful and inhumane.” He lamented that the move had plunged millions of Nigerians into poverty, destroying livelihoods and small businesses without due process or compensation.
According to him, “These demolitions destroy livelihoods, undermine businesses, and threaten the economic security of hardworking citizens.”
The growing outrage over these demolitions continues to stir conversations nationwide, as many Nigerians call for government accountability and a stop to what they describe as selective enforcement and economic sabotage.
