Yobe Police Arrest Two Suspects For Brutal Attack On Officer, Recovery Of Stolen Rifle

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the assault on a police officer, Corporal Amani Ali, in Nguru Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 27, 2025. He revealed that the officer was attacked while on duty at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.

According to the statement, the attackers left Corporal Ali unconscious after carting away his AK-47 rifle. However, police operatives swiftly launched a tactical operation which led to the recovery of the rifle, loaded magazines, and a knife jacket believed to have been used in the attack.

“On September 26, 2025, at about 1900hrs, Corporal Amani Ali, while on patrol around the hospital premises, was found lying unconscious and bleeding, with his rifle missing. Operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters immediately swung into action and recovered the stolen items around Sabon Garin Kanuri swamp area,” the statement read.

The suspects identified as Jarma Hussaini Adam (25) and Mohammed Abdusalam a.k.a Uzaifa (16), both residents of Sabon Garin Kanuri in Nguru LGA, were later arrested in connection with the assault.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the injured officer is responding to treatment, while the command has vowed to ensure justice.

“This incident is considered an affront to the Nigeria Police Force by disgruntled elements. The Command remains resolute in ensuring that any attempt to assault police personnel is treated not only as a criminal act but also as an attack on constituted authority,” Abdulkarim stated.
