The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Abuja will witness unprecedented infrastructural transformation before the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first term.
Wike made the pledge on Monday during the flag-off of access roads ILS 02 and ILS 03, also known as Timipre Sylva Street, in Mabushi District. He described the projects as a key step under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises modern infrastructure, efficient transportation, quality healthcare, education, and youth empowerment.
According to Wike, the new roads are not just about easing movement but also part of a broader vision to reposition Abuja as a city that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with global capitals.
No Abandoned Projects Under My Watch
Responding to criticisms that his administration was too focused on road projects, Wike maintained that infrastructure is the foundation of development. He stressed that every project flagged off under his tenure had already been fully funded to avoid abandonment.
“Don’t bring projects when you don’t have the money,” Wike cautioned. “Contracts without funding only raise false hopes. Every project we start has financial backing.”
Focus on Judiciary Housing
After the road flag-off, the minister inspected ongoing works at the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, and the judges’ quarters in Gishiri.
While impressed with the housing units’ progress, he expressed dissatisfaction with delays at the Court of Appeal project.
“I am not too satisfied that the contractor will meet the promised timeline, but I believe the project will not exceed this year,” he said, revealing that the contractor had been summoned for urgent talks.
Wike also commended President Tinubu for his commitment to the welfare of judicial officers, stressing that proper housing would strengthen judicial independence and protect judges from security threats.
Observers say Wike’s aggressive push for infrastructure may reshape Abuja’s future and leave a lasting mark on Tinubu’s first term in office.
