The political rivalry between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, is heating up once again.
Last Friday, Tambuwal declared on Channels Television’s Politics Today that if forced to choose, he would back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over Wike in any future national leadership contest. According to him, his political decisions are guided by principles of leadership rather than personal ties.
“When it comes to leadership of this country and leadership of the people, tomorrow, not even today, I would rather support Atiku than Nyesom Wike,” Tambuwal said.
The former governor emphasized that his stance was never personal, stressing that he had not openly opposed either President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Wike on a personal level.
However, in a swift reaction on Monday, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the FCT Minister would not let Tambuwal’s remarks slide.
Olayinka described Tambuwal’s comments as a veiled attack not only on Wike but also on President Tinubu.
“Apart from what he said against the Minister, Tambuwal also cast aspersions on President Tinubu and such will not go unresponded to. The Minister will definitely tell Nigerians what betrayal is and what it means to have integrity,” Olayinka said.
He further assured Nigerians that Wike’s full response would be delivered in due course, urging the public to “keep their fingers crossed.”
With tensions escalating, political watchers anticipate a fiery exchange that could further shape alliances and rivalries within Nigeria’s political landscape.
