PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, has described the ongoing rift between FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as embarrassing to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Reacting during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George urged both leaders, who were once close allies, to end the public dispute fueling the party’s leadership crisis. He advised them to resolve their differences internally, stressing that public confrontations weaken the party.
The comments followed claims by Wike that Makinde is displeased over not being offered a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu. Wike further disclosed that members of the G-5 bloc had earlier met with the president on the matter, who allegedly promised to address their concerns.
He said, “When we agreed on this, Seyi’s problem was that he was not given a ministerial slot. Even when he was saying it, you could see the anger in him. We told him to ‘calm down.
“That was even the reason we went to see the President. The President said, ‘There are certain factors I may not have considered; however, something has to be done.’ What again? You already had it on your mind.
“In fact, I remember now, the Rivers Ijaw people organised a reception for me in Port Harcourt. So when Ortom said, ‘Look, we are going to support the President for a second term,’ Seyi replied in the newspapers, saying, ‘Why would you say such a thing?”
