The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike dismissed the remarks of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who predicted that Tinubu would place third in the election.
El-Rufai, during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, stated:
“Tinubu will be third in the 2027 election. I have done my maths, and I can tell you Tinubu has no pathway to win. The worst-case scenario is that there will not be any winner in the first ballot. Ask yourself, is your life better now under President Tinubu? There is even no pretense of good intentions. We are free to assess our government after two weeks.”
Reacting, Wike said El-Rufai’s projections were “flawed and baseless,” stressing that it was surprising El-Rufai failed to state who would emerge first and second in his calculations.
The FCT minister also dismissed the possibility of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, being a major challenger in 2027, despite securing six million votes in the 2023 elections. According to Wike, “political dynamics have shifted significantly since then.”
Wike maintained that President Tinubu remains the strongest contender going into 2027, and that his political structure and influence will ensure his re-election.
