US Congresswoman Opposes Bullying Nigeria on Insecurity

United States Congresswoman, Pramila Jayapal, has urged her colleagues to refrain from pressuring Nigeria amidst the ongoing insecurity crisis. Her statement was made on Wednesday during a US Congress Public Hearing on Nigeria, designated as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC), which is examining former President Donald Trump’s redesignation of the nation.

Jayapal responded to Trump’s threats of military intervention in Nigeria, should the violence against Christians persist. She expressed her disapproval, stating, “I just wish we would stick to that playbook rather than bully and threaten Nigeria, which is extremely important to us in the region. I don’t think it’s the right way to go on Truth Social and threaten with guns blazing.”

Currently, delegations of senior Nigerian government officials are engaging with the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa to devise strategies to address and resolve the insecurity challenges facing the country.
