United States Congressman Riley Moore has announced the commencement of investigations into allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, as reported by President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Moore revealed that Congress is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to gather evidence on the matter.
He clarified that once Congress obtains credible findings on the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, these will be presented to President Trump.
Moore stated, “We are also working with the leadership to present findings to the President as soon as we can, once we have substantial evidence from our perspective.
“We have been coordinating continuously with the State Department and other entities within the White House to address this issue. We aim to uncover the truth.”
He described the situation in Nigeria as horrific, referring to the killings of Christians, and emphasized that, as President Trump has asserted, efforts will be made to stop them.
In response to President Tinubu’s denial of Trump’s claims, Moore countered, stating, “Unfortunately, those claims are completely false. There are Nigerian states with blasphemy laws where individuals face the death penalty for blasphemy against Islam.
“Currently, a person is imprisoned for self-defense against an attack by a Fulani Muslim militant.
“This individual is facing the death penalty. There is serious persecution occurring in Nigeria, and while President Tinubu is in a challenging position trying to safeguard his interests, statements like his indicate complicity to some degree.”
Regarding the Christian-Muslim violence ratio, Moore noted, “Muslims are also being killed, but the data we have shows a five-to-one ratio of Christians to other minorities, including Muslims, being killed in Nigeria.
“It is five Christians to one Muslim being killed.”
When asked whether the US should intervene in what appears to be an internal issue of a sovereign nation, Moore asserted, “We absolutely should. As a Christian nation, we uphold values of defending persecuted individuals.
The President’s recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern unlocks various measures, including sanctions, withholding developmental funding, and restricting financial institution financing.
“All options are on the table, including military kinetic action.”
