Suspected terrorists operating in parts of Northern Nigeria are reportedly relocating after recent US airstrikes targeting their hideouts. Community leaders in Tangaza, Gudu and Illela areas of Sokoto State confirmed unusual movements following the Christmas Day attacks.
According to residents, armed groups have been seen moving in small units towards remote forest corridors, while others allegedly attempted to cross into neighbouring border communities to avoid surveillance. A leader in Tangaza said the strike sent a strong warning signal, forcing criminals to abandon familiar camps.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Traditional Council in Gwer West, Benue State, Daniel Abomtse, raised concerns over armed herders fleeing Sokoto and moving into Benue and Agatu areas with sophisticated weapons. He urged expanded operations to other affected states.
Sokoto State officials say intelligence monitoring is ongoing to assess the scale and direction of the movement.
