Toke Makinwa is a prominent Nigerian radio presenter, television host, YouTuber, lifestyle entrepreneur, and author, best known for her work on Rhythm 93.7 FM’s The Morning Drive and her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments. She published her memoir, On Becoming, in November 2016.
Born on November 3, 1984, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Makinwa faced a tragic loss at a young age when she lost both parents in a gas explosion at the age of eight. She attended Federal Government Girls’ College in Oyo State and later graduated with a BA in English and Literature from the University of Lagos.
Makinwa made her significant media debut in 2010 as the co-host of The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM. In 2012, she hosted the live televised Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) beauty contest and co-hosted Flytime TV’s 3 Live Chicks alongside Tosyn Bucknor and Oreka Godis. Although she did not renew her contract for the show’s second season, she continued to grow her brand.
In 2013, Makinwa received the Nigeria Broadcasters Award for Outstanding Female Presenter of the Year and was nominated for Radio OAP of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She also became an ambassador for Nigeria’s United Africa Company. In January 2014, she was named the host of Hip Hop World Magazine’s chat program Trending and co-hosted EbonyLife TV’s flagship show Moments.
Throughout her career, Makinwa has hosted numerous significant events, including The Future Awards Africa and The Headies Awards. In March 2021, she co-hosted the third season of The Voice Nigeria and presented Season 12 of Gulder Ultimate Search in October 2021.
In November 2021, she launched her chat program Chat with Toke Makinwa on MultiChoice. Makinwa also starred in the 2022 film Glamour Girls, directed by Bunmi Adesoye and Abimbola Craig. Her memoir, On Becoming, explores her personal challenges, including her tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband Maje Ayida, whom she married on January 15, 2014, and divorced in 2017 due to infidelity.
In addition to her media career, Makinwa has ventured into fashion and skincare, launching her handbag collection, Toke Makinwa Luxury, in 2017, and Glow by TM, a skincare line, in 2018. She has been associated with various brands, including Nestlé Nigeria and Mecran Cosmetics.
As of 2025, Toke Makinwa’s net worth is projected at $2.2 million, stemming from her diverse income sources, including brand sponsorships, media contracts, and her successful businesses.
