Nigerian Student Caged for Raping Stranded Teenager
A Nigerian postgraduate student, Chiemka Okoronta, has been sentenced to a significant prison term in the United Kingdom for the brutal rape of a vulnerable 17-year-old girl.
The Bradford Crown Court heard how Okoronta exploited the teenager’s predicament on the night of March 25th. After their night bus service was unexpectedly terminated, leaving both stranded, the girl’s phone died. Seizing the opportunity, Okoronta offered to share a taxi home.
However, Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan detailed that Okoronta had a sinister plan. Instead of taking her to the agreed destination, Bradford Interchange, he tricked her into entering his flat under a false pretext. There, he lured her into a toilet, locked the door, and carried out a vicious sexual attack.
Following the assault, the traumatized victim managed to stop a passer-by and immediately called the police.
In a powerful victim impact statement read in court, the girl said, “This incident has turned my life upside down. I have flashbacks of what happened to me, I have nightmares – one minute I feel fine and the next minute it all comes back.”
Sentencing him, Judge Sophie McKone condemned Okoronta, stating, “I am satisfied that when you asked if she wanted to share your taxi… you formulated a plan that would get her back to your flat where you could rape her. You are, I am clear, a dangerous sexual predator.”
Okoronta was convicted of multiple rape offences. He was handed a jail sentence with an extended licence period of three years and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. The court also stated he is likely to be deported to Nigeria after serving his sentence.
