A Kano-based television presenter has stirred heated debate online after advising men to marry unemployed women who would “respect them more,” instead of “successful but disrespectful” ones.

The media personality shared her controversial opinion on her Facebook page, where she claimed that a man’s peace of mind is more valuable than marrying a financially independent woman who undermines him.

According to her, “Marrying an unemployed lady who respects you is better than marrying a successful woman who does not respect you.”

Her post immediately went viral, triggering a wave of mixed reactions from social media users across Nigeria.

Public Reactions

While some agreed with her stance, others strongly criticized it, describing it as outdated and sexist.

One user, Saheed Robbulqowaafy, commented:

“As for me, I always prefer the unemployed ones. So that I can set up for her what I want. She will be the boss of her business while I remain her own boss. My wife cannot have two bosses.”

However, Ola Nre Waju disagreed, writing:

“Dey play! Who told you that broke girls have respect? Na hunger dey make them humble. If you feed them finish, body go tell you.”

Another commenter, Uwa Aishatu Gidado Idris, added a poetic touch, saying:

“Employed women get busy with paychecks, unemployed ones get busy with your heart. I believe it’s better for a man to marry a woman without a salary but full of peace.”

The post has since divided opinions online, with many Nigerians debating whether financial status or mutual respect should be the priority in marriage.
