The Nigerian Presidency has broken its silence on the potential for a high-level meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and United States President Donald Trump. The update, which has sparked widespread interest, confirms that diplomatic efforts are actively underway.
In a televised interview on Arise TV’s ‘Prime Time,’ Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, expressed strong optimism about the prospective meeting. “I said Tinubu and Trump will hopefully meet, either at the White House or the State House. It could happen at any time,” Bwala stated, fueling anticipation for a significant diplomatic engagement.
Bwala emphasized the importance of protocol in such delicate matters, noting that the process must be carefully managed. “In diplomacy, protocol is key. When you’re building something, it must be preserved and protected. We will not be pressured into revealing the stage we are at in this discussion because in diplomacy there must be respect for protocol,” he explained.
Addressing recent tensions, including President Trump’s threats of sanctions and military action over allegations of Christian genocide, Bwala sought to allay public fears. He characterized Trump’s approach as direct but not permanently hostile, stating, “Trump doesn’t hold grudges; he says what he wants to say, and afterwards, things return to normal.” He assured Nigerians that the government has understood the message and is taking steps to address the concerns, with results expected soon.
