Former US President Donald Trump has revealed that the United States worked closely with the Nigerian government to launch coordinated airstrikes against ISIS terrorists on Christmas Day in Sokoto.
Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., Trump said the operation was ordered to weaken ISIS fighters responsible for repeated attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria. According to him, the strikes were deliberately carried out on Christmas Day to send a strong message to the terror group.
Trump stated that the airstrikes were conducted at Nigeria’s request and described them as decisive and devastating. He added that follow-up strikes were also carried out to further degrade the group’s capabilities.
The US Department of Defense later confirmed that several ISIS militants were killed during the operation in northwestern Nigeria.
The event also drew attention to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who attended the gathering. Trump praised her leadership and influence, noting her background as a Christian pastor and describing her as highly respected.
The remarks highlight ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in combating terrorism and protecting vulnerable communities.
