The Super Eagles of Nigeria are setting their sights firmly on victory as they gear up to face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash in Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, team captain William Troost-Ekong expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances, stressing that the squad’s sole objective is to secure all three points.
“South Africa is a good team that we respect, but we just have to go on the pitch and play our game. Our approach will be devoid of arrogance; we will play with level heads and go all out for victory,” Ekong assured.
The defender, who captained the Eagles during their Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, downplayed the team’s previous penalty shootout win against the South Africans, describing it as “history.” He emphasized that both sides have since evolved and the clash in Bloemfontein would be a fresh battle.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle also confirmed that the technical bench would be fielding a strong side determined to claim maximum points.
“We have come here to play for the three points. We are happy to have overcome Rwanda, but we have to conquer here tomorrow in order to be in a good position for qualification,” Chelle said.
With the stakes high and World Cup dreams on the line, fans across Africa are eagerly anticipating a fiery encounter that could define the qualification campaign.
