The family of veteran Nollywood actress, Peju Ogunmola, has officially spoken out following the death of her only child, Ayomikun, amid swirling rumours about the cause of his passing.
Naija News reports that the Yoruba movie industry was thrown into mourning earlier this week when news broke of Ayomikun’s sudden demise, with some blogs alleging he died in the United Kingdom after a bathroom accident.
However, the family, through spokesperson Yemi Amodu, issued a statement on Friday dismissing the reports as false.
Death After Brief Illness in Ibadan
According to Amodu, Ayomikun passed away in Ibadan after a brief illness and had since been laid to rest at Eternal Rest Home.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle, a jewel, a precious child, and a rising star whose light touched many lives. His departure is a profound loss to our family and to all who knew and loved him,” the statement read.
The family stressed that Ayomikun did not die from a bathroom accident, contrary to the speculations circulating online.
“He was briefly unwell and received first-class medical care. Despite the best efforts of doctors, he peacefully answered the call of his Creator. He passed away at a hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria,” Amodu clarified.
Family Warns Against Fake News
The statement condemned misleading stories from bloggers who claimed Ayomikun slipped and died in a bathroom.
“These unfounded claims not only dishonour his memory but also bring unnecessary pain to his loved ones,” the family declared.
Gratitude Amid Grief
While mourning, the family expressed deep gratitude for the love, prayers, and support they have received from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers across Nigeria and beyond.
“We pray that no family will ever have to endure the pain of untimely loss. May the Almighty grant Sola eternal rest and grant us the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
The late Ayomikun was the son of Sunday Omobolanle (popularly known as Papi Luwe) and Peju Ogunmola, two prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
