Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly weighing retirement from boxing after surviving a fatal road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close aides.
The British-Nigerian boxer narrowly escaped death when his Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash killed his long-time strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif Ayodele.
Speaking in Sagamu, Ogun State, Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola, disclosed that the boxer has communicated his intention to step away from the sport, citing emotional strain on the family. He said the decision has brought relief, given the trauma experienced during Joshua’s fights.
Joshua later paid tribute to the deceased via an emotional Instagram post and attended their funeral prayers in London. While the incident has raised concerns about his future in boxing, family sources insist Nigeria remains his home despite the tragedy.
