Tiwa Savage Exposes “Darkness” in Music Industry, Stays True with New Album

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has spoken candidly about the struggles she faces in the entertainment industry, describing it as one “filled with darkness.”

During a heartfelt livestream with fans on Friday, the award-winning singer addressed criticism surrounding her new project, This One Is Personal, which recently dropped at midnight.

“The Industry Is Filled With Darkness”

Tiwa Savage expressed disappointment at those who dismissed her album simply because it didn’t feature American stars or high-profile collaborations.

She shared:

“My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I wish you guys knew so much, but I thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on Him. I haven’t fallen.”

Savage emphasized that her creative focus has always been on authenticity rather than chasing trends or cosigns. She explained that her music is about connection, not just numbers or party hits.

On Critics and Doubters

“When I put out the track list, I saw people saying, ‘Ah, she doesn’t have this person, she’s not featuring that person, no big American names,’” she said. “They automatically concluded the album wasn’t going to be good. But I wasn’t chasing huge cosigns. All I have is all I have — me, my team, and my fans.”

“I Don’t Need Millions of Fans”

Tiwa Savage also praised her loyal supporters, saying:

“Honestly, having you guys is enough for me. Sometimes you don’t need a lot of people, you just need the right people. I don’t need millions of fans, I just need the right ones. And I have the right ones.”

Album Journey

Reflecting on the journey, she revealed it took over two years to create This One Is Personal, despite skepticism from industry insiders who doubted its vulnerability and lack of club bangers.

“So many people told me nobody would listen to this type of record. But thank God, it’s finally out.”

Tiwa Savage’s powerful message reinforces her reputation as one of Africa’s most resilient artists, staying true to her artistry while navigating challenges in a competitive industry.
