President Bola Tinubu’s newly released list of 65 ambassadorial nominees has stirred controversy nationwide, as Nigerians, opposition parties, and civil society groups accuse the presidency of using key diplomatic postings to reward political loyalists.
Tinubu had earlier sent an initial three names on November 26, followed by 32 nominees, before transmitting an updated list containing 65 career and non-career ambassadors. Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the list to the Committee on Foreign Affairs with a one-week deadline.
While the presidency insists the nominations are strategic, critics argue that several figures on the list are controversial and not fit for global representation, raising concerns about merit, national interest, and transparency.
