The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has stated that nothing legally or morally prevents the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, from contesting for any political office in Nigeria — including the governorship of Lagos State.
In an interview with media personality Nedu on The Clarity Zone podcast, Bwala dismissed claims that Seyi’s political activities exist solely because of his father’s position.
“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala declared.
He described Seyi as humble, youth-friendly, and a bridge-builder, noting that he has cultivated friendships across party lines and supported many young Nigerians in securing government opportunities.
Bwala also pointed out that his past public criticism of Tinubu’s administration never affected his cordial relationship with Seyi, stressing that the president’s son should be judged by personal experience rather than inherited perceptions.
“At a point, he was even criticised for the people he brought into government, who were mostly Obidients. That tells you he doesn’t have biases,” he explained.
The presidential aide further commended Seyi for refraining from social media attacks despite the fact that President Tinubu is “one of the most vilified leaders in recent memory.”
“Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them. Too many people inherit other people’s problems without any personal encounter,” Bwala cautioned.
The comments have stirred fresh debate about the future political ambitions of Seyi Tinubu and whether the President’s son could emerge as a major player in the coming elections.
