President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s health sector, with a strong focus on ending the persistent power crisis plaguing medical facilities across the country.
Speaking at the National Stakeholders Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector held on Tuesday at Ladi Kwali Hall, Continental Hotel, Abuja, the President—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume—declared that no Nigerian should lose their life because of electricity failures in hospitals.
Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for innovative solutions to address longstanding problems that have crippled healthcare delivery, especially in critical units such as surgical theatres, maternity wards, intensive care units, laboratories, and emergency rooms.
“In surgical theatres, maternity wards, intensive care units, laboratories, and emergency rooms across the country, power outages too often compromise safety, interrupt care, and cost lives. This crisis demands our immediate attention and concerted action,” Tinubu said.
He stressed that the issue of erratic power supply cannot be allowed to continue under his administration. “Lives are at stake. We must act now,” he added.
Tinubu further assured that his government is committed to creating an enabling environment for private sector participation in health, energy, and infrastructure, particularly in renewable and hybrid energy systems. He invited credible investors to partner with Nigeria in addressing these challenges, stressing that the nation remains open for business.
The renewed focus on energy in the health sector is expected to reduce inefficiency, lower costs, and significantly improve patient care across the country.
