President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his directive on withdrawing police officers from VIP protection and replacing them with Civil Defence personnel, emphasizing the need to maximise security deployment nationwide. The announcement was made during the 11th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of 2025 in Abuja.
Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) and DSS to form a committee to review the country’s security structure, prioritise the arming and deployment of forest guards, and ensure protection against kidnapping and terrorism. He stressed that civil defence officers are adequately equipped to handle these responsibilities, while public officials will continue to receive necessary protection.
In addition, Tinubu urged state governors to rehabilitate abandoned ranches and designate livestock settlements, aiming to reduce farmers-herders conflicts and turn livestock reform into a profitable economic sector. He highlighted that the National Economic Council framework exists to guide these initiatives.
