President Bola Tinubu has directed the Inspector-General of Police, security agency heads, and the National Economic Council (NEC) to implement a nationwide security reorganisation. The initiative includes arming forest guards, addressing kidnapping, terrorism, and clashes between farmers and herders, and converting abandoned grazing reserves into functional ranches.
Speaking at the Federal Executive Council meeting, Tinubu emphasised the need for extraordinary measures to protect Nigerians, instructing the Vice President to identify grazing reserves suitable for modern livestock communities. He also mandated collaboration between the police, civil defence, and the Minister of the Interior to maintain community policing during the reorganisation.
The president stressed that security threats must be reported immediately and highlighted that transforming livestock development into profitable ventures could reduce conflicts. This follows his earlier directive to withdraw police personnel from VIP protection, a policy already partially enforced with over 11,000 officers recalled.
