President Bola Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency, citing escalating threats across Nigeria. In a statement from the Statehouse, he directed the Nigerian Police and Armed Forces to recruit additional personnel to strengthen security. The police are set to recruit 20,000 new officers, increasing the total intake to 50,000.
Tinubu also authorised the use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as temporary training facilities and instructed that officers withdrawn from VIP duties receive crash training before redeployment. Additionally, the Department of State Services (DSS) has been empowered to deploy trained forest guards to flush out terrorists and bandits operating in forested regions. The president emphasised that these measures aim to ensure a more effective response to rising insecurity nationwide.
