President Bola Tinubu and top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have celebrated elder statesman and former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, as he turned 87 on January 16, 2026.
In a goodwill message, Tinubu praised Akande’s decades-long commitment to democracy, progressive politics and national development, describing him as a mentor, moral compass and key architect of the APC. He recalled Akande’s role in laying the foundation that led to the historic defeat of an incumbent government in 2015.
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Hyacinth Alia of Benue also lauded Akande’s integrity, courage and dedication to good governance, federalism and public service.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described Akande as a priceless asset and bridge between generations, while party spokesman Felix Morka hailed him as a doyen of democracy whose legacy continues to inspire Nigeria’s political class.
