A Nigerian man, Irogbum Godspower Worlu, has stirred emotions online after sharing his heartbreaking reflections on the fate of many elderly parents who end up in old people’s homes.
In a Facebook post, Worlu said he was moved to tears after seeing pictures of an elderly home, which made him think about how some children abandon their parents despite years of sacrifice.
“Sad. Life is indeed a mystery. I found myself reflecting deeply today after seeing pictures of a Home for the Elderly. A parent carries a pregnancy for nine months, raises the child with sleepless nights, sacrifices, prayers, and hard work — only for the same child to abandon them in old age,” he lamented.
The emotional post questioned whether this was truly the reward of parenthood and highlighted the decline in family values.
Worlu further emphasized that old age is a stage everyone hopes to reach, adding that parents deserve love, dignity, and care, not abandonment.
“Let us not forget that old age is a stage of life every one of us hopes to reach. Treating our parents with love and dignity is not just a moral duty — it is a seed we are sowing for ourselves,” he concluded.
His heartfelt words have since triggered mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians agreeing that modern society is gradually losing its sense of family responsibility.
