Traditional rulers in the Taraba North Senatorial District, alongside the Taraba Northern Development Initiative (TNDI), have strongly criticized federal lawmakers representing the zone, accusing them of neglecting their legislative duties and abandoning the people.
The condemnation came during a high-level meeting held in Lau Local Government Area, themed: “Strategic Consultation of Taraba Northern Leaders: Reawakening the Giant.”
Prominent leaders and stakeholders at the event expressed deep frustration over what they described as a consistent failure in representation.
Monarchs Challenge Lawmakers
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Chief of Lau, Abubakar Danbaworo, openly challenged lawmakers from Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau to present any significant achievements since assuming office.
He said:
“Can anyone point to the achievements of any National Assembly member from Taraba North? They have failed to touch the lives of their people. If they come during elections with money, collect it, but vote for the best candidates.”
TNDI’s Stand
Echoing the monarchs’ concerns, Danjuma Adams, convener of TNDI, lamented the zone’s lack of development despite producing several senators and House of Representatives members since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
He argued that Taraba North cannot boast of any meaningful federal project, stressing that it was time for citizens to demand accountability.
Adams described the situation as “decades of legislative underperformance”, urging constituents to embrace political consciousness and insist on better representation.
The meeting ended with a collective pledge by both monarchs and stakeholders to continue pushing for improved governance and sustainable development in the region.
