SWAGA Explodes: Finance Minister Wale Edun Accused of Pushing Nigeria Into Historic Zero Capital Budget Crisis

The South West Agenda for Tinubu (SWAGA) has launched a blistering attack on Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, accusing him of presiding over what it calls an “unprecedented zero percent capital budget performance.”

In a strongly worded statement signed by its president, Otunba Adedayo Adewole, on Monday, the group claimed that Edun had failed President Bola Tinubu and betrayed the confidence of millions of Nigerians who had hoped for economic stability.

“Until this moment, capital budget performance under this administration is at zero. That is not a figure of speech, it is the stark reality of a failed economic team. Wale Edun should resign and go home because he has failed completely in his responsibility to the nation,” Adewole declared.

The group lamented that despite borrowing heavily at home and abroad, the federal government has failed to service domestic debts or commence implementation of the 2025 Appropriation Act, even as the nation enters September.

SWAGA noted that the Appropriation Act represents the “heartbeat of government’s social contract with the people” and stressed that failure to implement it means “zero progress” for citizens, leaving roads, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure in disrepair.

The group, which played a pivotal role in mobilizing South West votes for Tinubu during the 2023 elections, described the economic hardship as “man-made and avoidable,” blaming poor policy choices and “deliberate indifference to citizens’ suffering.”

It also cautioned the National Assembly against shielding Edun, warning lawmakers that silence would amount to “treachery against the people.”

While pledging loyalty to President Tinubu, SWAGA called for Edun’s immediate resignation, urging the president to appoint a competent economic manager who can restore public confidence and put Nigeria back on track.
