Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, has pleaded with Nigerians to stop attacking her mother, Rita Daniels, amid the ongoing crisis in her marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko.
The appeal came after reports emerged that members of her family accused Nwoko of ordering the arrest of her brother, Sammy West, allegedly vowing not to release him until Regina returns home and undergoes rehabilitation.
The rift between the couple intensified after a viral video showed Regina crying and alleging that she was being mistreated by her husband, a claim which Nwoko denied, accusing her instead of being a drug addict.
Some Nigerians have since blamed Regina’s mother for “allowing” her daughter to marry the billionaire politician.
Regina Speaks: “I Was the One Who Chose Ned”
Addressing the controversy in an emotional Instagram video, Regina said it was unfair to blame her mother, revealing that she defied her family’s warnings and even ran away from home to marry Nwoko because she was “madly in love.”
“The main essence of this video is to please stop insulting my mom. She’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” Regina said tearfully.
“My family warned me not to marry Ned. Everyone did — my mom, my brothers — but I refused. I ran out in the middle of the night. I was ready to kill myself if I didn’t marry him. I actually fell in love, and it was crazy.”
The actress also dismissed claims that her marriage was driven by greed or money, stating that her family was not broke at the time and that her mother never pushed her into marriage for financial gain.
“Stop saying I got married out of greed. My mom didn’t sell me. I was already providing for my family before I married Ned. My mom suffered for us; she deserves peace,” she said.
Regina described her mother as her “God on earth,” saying Rita Daniels held the family together for years despite public criticism.
The video has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many expressing sympathy for the actress while others questioned the deeper issues behind her marriage to the lawmaker.
