A political strategist and Group CEO of Global Investment and Trade Company, Baba Yusuf, has said that personal gain, not ideology, is the major reason many Nigerians join politics. Speaking on Prime Time on Arise Television, Yusuf described the trend as “stomach infrastructure,” arguing that politicians often align with the ruling party to make life easier for themselves.
According to him, the mass movement of politicians to the All Progressives Congress (APC) mirrors what happened during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) era when it controlled power. Yusuf claimed that the PDP is gradually declining, noting that Nigerian politicians are driven more by access to power than party loyalty. He added that historical patterns show such defections are common whenever a party dominates the political space.
