Sowore Alleges Secret Plot by Tinubu’s Govt to Sentence Nnamdi Kanu to Death or Life Imprisonment

Human rights activist and political figure, Omoyele Sowore, has raised alarm over what he describes as a “secret decision” within President Bola Tinubu’s government regarding the fate of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a post shared on his official X (Twitter) account, Sowore alleged that the government had already concluded plans to sentence Kanu either to death or life imprisonment, disguising it as a judicial process.

“Secret Decision Already Made” – Sowore

“For the avoidance of doubt and to alert the public, it has become clear that a secret decision has long been reached within the @officialABAT regime regarding the fate of Mazi @NnamdiKanu,” Sowore wrote.

He further claimed that the plan was the result of a “high-level political conspiracy”, designed to appear like due legal proceedings.

“The plan is to either sentence him to death or condemn him to life imprisonment,” he added.

Sowore alleged that the ruling of Justice James Omotosho would be used to justify what he called a pre-determined outcome, asserting that Kanu’s refusal to open his defence might be misinterpreted as an admission of guilt.

“History Repeating Itself”

Drawing a comparison to Ken Saro-Wiwa’s 1995 execution under General Sani Abacha’s regime, Sowore warned that Nigeria could be repeating one of its darkest historical moments.

“The nation stands at a moral crossroads similar to that of 1995,” he said, adding that Kanu’s case has moved beyond legality and now represents “a test of conscience for both the Nigerian government and its citizens.”
