Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has publicly condemned the arrest and detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, who is the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels.
In a strong statement issued on Facebook, Sowore accused Senator Ned Nwoko and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of orchestrating what he termed an “unjust imprisonment.” Sammy West was reportedly arrested in Lagos on November 4 by security operatives allegedly linked to the Senator.
According to reports, the young man was transferred to Abuja and arraigned before a Dutse Magistrate Court on November 6 without legal representation. The court subsequently ordered his remand in Keffi Prison until November 28. Family sources allege he was denied access to a lawyer and kept incommunicado, suggesting the arrest is connected to a personal dispute between Senator Nwoko and Regina Daniels.
Sowore described the situation as a deep-seated “act of tyranny” and an exhibition of impunity. He called for the immediate and unconditional release of Sammy West and the withdrawal of all charges against him, labeling them as “bogus.”
This incident adds a new layer to the public saga involving the politician and the Nollywood star, raising serious concerns about the alleged weaponization of state power.
