Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has once again declared that he does not support the separatist agenda of Biafra, insisting that the Igbo people need Nigeria as much as Nigeria needs the Igbo.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, Soludo maintained that his focus is on finding a peaceful and progressive path for the South-East within a united Nigeria.
“For me, I believe very strongly that, of course, the agitation and separatist view in Igboland – for me, as a full-blooded Igbo man, I don’t believe that. But I want us to have a discussion. I am of the view that the Igbo man needs Nigeria; Nigeria needs the Igbo man,” he said.
The governor, who is seeking reelection in 2025, stated that he plans to hold talks with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, once he is released from custody.
According to Soludo, the discussion will focus on an alternative vision for Igbo land, centred on peace, development, and inclusion.
“When Nnamdi Kanu comes out, we are all going to sit down at a round table and interrogate our alternative vision for Igbo land,” he noted.
Governor Soludo’s statement comes amid growing anticipation over a nationwide protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, being organised by activist Omoyele Sowore, to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his rearrest in Kenya.
While Soludo did not oppose the planned protest, he stressed the need for dialogue and understanding to address the underlying grievances in the South-East.
The governor has been a consistent advocate for peaceful coexistence and economic empowerment in the region, urging political leaders and agitators alike to embrace dialogue as the best route to progress.
