Sokoto Govt Denies Claims Linking Governor Aliyu to Alleged Visit to IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

The Sokoto State Government has refuted media reports alleging that Governor Ahmed Aliyu accompanied Abia State Governor Alex Otti during his visit to detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Custodial Centre. In a statement from his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the government described the publication as false and misleading.

According to the statement, Governor Aliyu was in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj on November 30, 2025—the same period Governor Otti was in Sokoto. The state clarified that only selected commissioners and special advisers officially received Otti at the airport and later at Government House, in line with Sokoto’s culture of extending hospitality to visiting dignitaries.

The government reiterated that Governor Aliyu remains committed to peace, unity, and respect for constituted authority. Meanwhile, Otti’s visit to Kanu was confirmed as part of ongoing administrative efforts to secure Kanu’s release.
