The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has published the names of inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Keffi, Nasarawa State, and Ilesa, Osun State.
According to the official list released on its website, the fugitives include armed robbery suspects, individuals facing firearm-related charges, and those accused of conspiracy, extortion, and theft.
At the Keffi centre, 16 inmates broke free on August 12, 2025, after overpowering correctional officers. Five officers were injured, two critically. The escapees include:
- Mohammed Mohammed (24, Kaduna) – armed robbery

Seven escapees have since been recaptured.
At the Ilesa centre, seven inmates fled on May 20, 2025, after a heavy downpour caused the collapse of the facility’s perimeter wall. Only one has been re-arrested. The escapees include:
- Eze Nweze – armed robbery
- Tobi Akin – illegal possession of firearms/theft
- Matthew Ogunjimi – unlawful possession of weapons/armed robbery
- John Michael – armed robbery
- Ninalowo Yusuf – breaking/stealing
- Olalekan Ajofoyinbo – armed robbery
Authorities earlier announced a ₦5 million reward for information leading to their capture.
NCoS Controller-General, Sylvester Nwakuche, condemned what he described as the “lackadaisical attitude” of some personnel, warning that negligence and indiscipline have repeatedly exposed the nation’s correctional facilities to breaches.
Between 2020 and 2025, more than 4,000 inmates have escaped from prisons across Nigeria, underscoring systemic issues of infrastructural decay, underfunding, and poor personnel training.
Past incidents include the Owerri jailbreak of April 2021, where 1,844 inmates escaped following an armed raid, and the Kuje prison attack of July 2022, which freed hundreds of terrorism suspects.
🔎 The NCoS assured the public that security agencies are on the trail of the latest fugitives and expressed confidence that they would be rearrested soon.
