Drama unfolded at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) after a student returned from holiday only to find her hostel room looted — and the most talked-about item missing was a plastic container of garri.
The student, who shared her experience on TikTok under the handle @baby___marvel, revealed that she had carefully locked her hostel room before traveling home for the break. According to her, the room was well-stocked with food items such as spaghetti, condiments, and a large plastic of garri that was almost filled to the brim.
However, on her return, she was left in shock as most of the provisions had vanished. The highlight of the theft, which triggered massive reactions online, was that even the plastic of garri — often considered the last line of defense for hungry students — was carted away.
In a viral video, she shared before-and-after visuals of her provisions: from shelves packed with food to almost empty racks after the break-in. A voiceover in the clip captured the disbelief, stating: “Infact, they stole her garri plastic.”
The video quickly drew sympathy and humor in equal measure as social media users thronged the comment section. While many expressed concern about the growing insecurity in student hostels, others cracked jokes about how desperate a thief must be to steal garri.
The incident has once again sparked debates around campus safety, hostel security, and the daily struggles students face.
