Shock in Lagos: ADC Accuses APC of Terror Tactics After Church Attack Leaves Worshippers Injured

Tension gripped Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State on Sunday after suspected political thugs invaded a church premises where the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was holding a gathering.

The event, attended by ADC leaders including former Labour Party governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, turned chaotic as hoodlums stormed the venue, leaving several people injured, vehicles vandalized, and property seized.

In a strongly worded statement, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of “acting like a terrorist organisation” by allegedly sponsoring the violent disruption.

“The invasion of a church premises by government-backed thugs is a desecration of sacred ground and proof of a jittery ruling party desperate to silence opposition voices,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC further alleged that the Lagos incident was part of a larger pattern of harassment against its members across Nigeria, citing threats in Edo, harassment in Kogi, the closure of a private radio station in Niger, disruption of meetings in Kaduna, and violent attacks on convoys in Kebbi.

The party recalled a recent Canadian court ruling that reportedly branded the APC a terrorist organisation, warning that attacks on places of worship only reinforced that perception.

“If churches and mosques are no longer safe from political thugs, how does APC intend to convince the world it is not a terrorist organisation? After all, attacking sacred spaces is what terrorists do,” the statement read.

Calling on the Nigeria Police Force to rise above political influence, the ADC demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible, stressing that “the credibility of our institutions is now on trial before the whole world.”

The party concluded by vowing not to be intimidated.
“We will remain peaceful but resolute. We will not fold our arms while our leaders are attacked and our gatherings are turned into battlegrounds. This violence must stop now.”
