The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old school gatekeeper, Josiah Ayomide, over the alleged defilement of a four-year-old pupil in Ibadan.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, disclosed the development on Thursday during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
According to him, the case came to light on August 29, 2025, when the victim complained to her elder sister of pains in her private parts. Upon further questioning, the child revealed that the school gatekeeper allegedly raped her while she was at school.
Osifeso said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation. Medical examinations conducted at the Police Medical Clinic, Eleyele confirmed bruises around the victim’s vulva and vagina, with the hymen no longer intact.
“The suspect will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” Osifeso stated.
In a separate development, the police also arrested Azeez Kolawole and Isah Fatai in the Soka Sanyo area of Ibadan for allegedly stealing goats across the city and its environs. The suspects were caught using a Toyota Matrix without a number plate to transport the stolen livestock.
The PPRO revealed that the two men were repeat offenders, having been previously arrested and charged to court twice for similar crimes. Both confessed to the offense, while police investigations continue to trace other members of their syndicate.
Additionally, the police command disclosed that several other suspects have been arrested in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery, and vehicle hijacking across Oyo State.
The arrests, Osifeso said, highlight the ongoing efforts of the command to clamp down on criminal activities and ensure public safety across the state.
