A 26-year-old woman, Megan Isherwood, has stunned many after being rushed to the hospital with what doctors believed was appendicitis, only to end up delivering a baby boy she never knew she was carrying.
Isherwood, a bar manager from Blackburn, Lancashire, said she had no visible bump or pregnancy symptoms and was left speechless when she welcomed her son.
On September 9, she was taken to Blackburn Hospital after experiencing severe pain in her right side, nausea, and vomiting blood. Doctors suspected appendicitis and ordered scans, but instead discovered a baby’s head and foot.
Isherwood was immediately transferred to Burnley Hospital, but before arriving, she gave birth to her son, Jaxson, weighing 4.6 lbs.
“I was speechless. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I had no bump, no symptoms at all. He just came out of nowhere. He is a miracle,” she said.
The shock continued when Jaxson, born at 33 weeks, turned blue and stopped breathing shortly after birth. Paramedics revived him before arrival at the hospital.
Both mother and baby were later diagnosed with sepsis, but made full recoveries after receiving antibiotics. Jaxson, however, had another health scare days later when he briefly stopped breathing again before being saved by doctors.
He was discharged on September 25, and Isherwood says he has since been thriving at home.
“He didn’t make himself known before birth, but he certainly did after, surviving twice. He’s such a brave boy,” the proud mother added.
