A viral video circulating on social media has sparked widespread debate after a young lady revealed that more than 200 students in a Nigerian tertiary institution had carryover in mathematics.
In the clip, the lady could be heard expressing shock as she filmed the large crowd of students, whom she claimed were those affected by the mass carryover.
“Omo see carryover students in mathematics. Them plenty ooh, accounting students, carry over choke,” she said while panning her camera across the group.
During the recording, one of her friends—an accounting student suspected to be among those with the carryover—approached her. The lady teased her friend saying, “so you get carryover, see carryover face,” before bursting into laughter as the student walked away.
The video has since generated reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians questioning what could have led to such a massive failure in a single course, while others blamed the education system for being too rigid.
Some commentators suggested that the failure might be due to poor teaching methods, lack of proper study materials, or the students’ lack of preparation. Others, however, insisted that mathematics had always been a major stumbling block for many students, especially in accounting and related fields.
