Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the reported death of Venerable Edwin Achi, the Anglican priest kidnapped alongside his wife, Sarah, in Kaduna State. The couple was abducted on October 28, 2025, from their residence in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, close to the Kaduna Refinery.
Bandits had earlier sent distressing photographs to the family, showing the priest, his wife, and other captives chained, malnourished, and in poor condition, while demanding a ₦600 million ransom. A family source confirmed that Achi’s health deteriorated rapidly in captivity, leading to his tragic death.
In a separate incident, two police officers were also killed during an attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, Southern Kaduna. The back-to-back attacks have intensified calls for stronger security intervention in the region.
