Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu carries a historic responsibility to reshape Nigeria’s destiny, warning that his failure to deliver could make it difficult for future presidents to succeed.
Speaking in an interview on TVC, Sani described the Tinubu administration as a defining moment in Nigeria’s political history, urging the president to lead with courage and competence.
“The president has a unique opportunity to reshape and reconfigure the destiny of this country. If President Bola Tinubu fails, I don’t think it will be easy for any other president to succeed,” Sani cautioned.
He advised Tinubu to prioritize competence over political loyalty in his appointments, referencing the governance model the president implemented as Lagos State governor, where he appointed capable technocrats to drive development.
“The standard he set in Lagos, where he brought the best people to lead, must now be applied nationwide,” the former lawmaker added.
Sani lamented the toxic nature of Nigerian politics, noting that both the ruling class and the opposition treat each other as enemies rather than partners in nation-building.
“Our politics is so toxic that those in government see the opposition as enemies, while those outside power see the government as an enemy,” he said.
He further urged President Tinubu to take bold and reform-driven decisions, even if unpopular, stressing that meaningful progress requires sacrifice and vision.
“No country dropped from heaven. China, Singapore, Indonesia — they all paid the price for progress,” Sani remarked.
The outspoken former senator concluded that Tinubu’s performance in office would determine whether Nigeria begins a true journey toward national recovery or continues to face cycles of stagnation.
